Mary Verbos' Famous Dinner Rolls

  Ingredients
1
Packet of dry yeast

1/4

Cup of warm water
3/4
Cup of lukewarm milk -- scalded and then cooled
1/4
Cup of sugar
1
Teaspoon of salt
1
Egg
1/4
Cup of soft butter
3 1/2
Cups of flour -- you can use more flour but no more than 3 3/4 Cups total
  Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 ºF
In a mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water
Stir in the remaining ingredients adding only enough flour to handle easily
Place the dough onto a lightly floured board
Knead it until it is smooth and elastic
Note:
If you have a Kitchenaid mixer, you can add all the ingredients instead of mixing and kneading by hand
Place the dough in a greased bowl then turn the dough over so that the greased side is up
Place a damp cloth to cover the bowl then place the bowl in a warm place to let it rise to about double its size -- about 1 1/2 hours
Punch down the dough and cover it to let it rise again to double its size -- about 30 minutes
Shape the dough into dinner roll size pieces and place in a greased baking sheet
Let the rolls rise for 20 minutes
Bake in the oven until lightly browned -- about 12 - 15 minutes
Set tha pan onto a cooling rack or serve it warm
